Celebrating the Ho Family's Journey Home

On June 18, 2026, we proudly celebrated the Home Dedication of the Ho family, marking the completion of a journey built on determination, sacrifice, hard work, and the power of community.
For Hana, Trina, and their adult daughter, Te Hani, this moment represented far more than the completion of a house. It marked the realization of a dream of a place to call home that they worked tirelessly to achieve together.
From the very first day on the build site, the family knew they were part of something life-changing.

"Our first day on the build site was exciting, emotional, and a little overwhelming," they shared. "Standing on the site and realizing that this would one day be our home filled us with hope for the future."
While Hana brought valuable construction experience to the project, the rest of the family entered the build process with little hands-on experience. Together, they embraced the challenge, learning new skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the teamwork and dedication required to build a home.
With each passing week, their dream became more tangible. Walls were raised, windows were installed, and rooms began to take shape. One moment stood out above all others.

"The moment we walked through the framed structure and could identify each room was when it truly became real," they recalled. "We could picture where we would gather as a family, where our child would have their own space, and where we would create memories together for years to come."
Throughout the process, every member of the family played an important role. Hana contributed construction knowledge and experience on the build site. Trina managed schedules, paperwork, and daily responsibilities. Te Hani balanced two jobs while completing sweat equity hours and supporting the family's goal of homeownership.
Like many Habitat partner families, balancing work, family commitments, and sweat equity hours was not always easy. Yet the family remained focused on their shared vision.
"Our motivation has always been our family and the dream of homeownership," they said. "Every hour of work brought us one step closer to a safe, stable, and affordable home."
One of the most meaningful aspects of the journey was the opportunity to work alongside Habitat volunteers. The Ho family was deeply touched by the generosity, encouragement, and support they received throughout the build.
"One of the most meaningful experiences was working alongside volunteers who treated us like family," they shared. "Their kindness and willingness to help complete strangers left a lasting impression on all of us."
What surprised them most was how personal the Habitat experience became.
"We expected to help build a house, but we didn't expect to build meaningful relationships and feel such a strong sense of belonging within the Habitat community."
The experience transformed their understanding of community. What once simply meant the people living nearby now means people coming together, supporting one another, and working toward a common goal.
The Ho family hopes every volunteer knows the profound difference they have made.

"Their efforts have given us far more than a home," they said. "They have given us stability, security, hope, and the opportunity to build a better future. Their generosity will have a lasting impact on our family for generations."
Today, the Ho family looks ahead with gratitude and excitement. Their new home provides the foundation for greater financial security, future opportunities, and a place where family can gather, celebrate milestones, and create lasting memories.
"This experience strengthened our communication, teamwork, and appreciation for one another," they reflected. "Accomplishing this goal together has created a stronger bond and a deeper sense of pride in what we have achieved as a family."
As we celebrated their Home Dedication, we were reminded that Habitat homes are built not only with lumber and nails, but with hope, perseverance, and the collective efforts of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and partner families working together.
Hoʻomaikaʻi i ka ʻOhana Ho no ko ʻoukou hale hou! We are honored to have been part of your journey and look forward to seeing all the wonderful memories that will be made in your new home for years to come.

Special Mahalo to our volunteer photographer, Alison Milam of Milam Photos, for beautifully capturing this memorable Home Dedication and helping us share the Ho family's inspiring journey.
