Welcome Geno, our new ReStore Manager!

  • News

Join us in welcoming Genovese Seumalo (more affectionately known around here as Geno) as Honolulu ReStore’s newest manager!

Geno has been working with Honolulu ReStore for over five years, and during that time he’s worn many hats as an associate, assisting with donations, volunteers, customers and warehouse operations.

What’s ahead for ReStore?

A lot! At ReStore, we have many loyal shoppers who come every week to check out the ever-changing inventory. Our biggest challenge is that most people simply don’t know we’re here. I’d like to see ReStore become a household name, like Goodwill, the Salvation Army or Savers.

We want to be the first place people look to purchase household items, tools, appliances, furniture and everything in-between.

We serve about 10,000 customers each year, but not everyone realizes that that their purchases and donations help Honolulu Habitat build affordable homes on Oahu.

“Think of it this way,” says Geno, “if our administrative department is the ‘brains’ of the operations and the construction team is the ‘arms’ that bring our plans to life, then ReStore is the heart that keeps everything going. It’s how we fund our organization – every dollar helps build the story of home. ReStore connects us to people in the communities we serve and to the land we are all here to steward.”

ReStore is the heart that keeps everything going

The more ReStore can do, the more our community benefits.

What has inspired you to work with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity for all these years?

Being from a small island like American Samoa, where people are so caring and helpful and where the houselessness crisis is such a foreign entity, it was easy to connect with and commit to an organization like Honolulu Habitat, that’s helping people here in Hawaii make the comfort of having a home possible.

What do you most enjoy about your work?

That’s simple: the people. From our staff who work tirelessly to serve our mission, to the volunteers that give their time generously when there’s a million other things they could be doing. I love seeing families come in to buy their first dining table or find that “missing piece” of their new living room. We get a lot of creative-types and DIY’ers. And of course, none of this is possible without our donors – folks who choose to stop at our donation center instead of the landfill.

I am proud to be part of this collective effort to build a better Hawaii.

Stop by ReStore to say hi to Geno and the team today!
