Aloha friends,

Everyone deserves a place to call home. But right now, more than 24,000 people in Hawaii are without a decent place to live. Children are growing up in inadequate and overcrowded homes, while parents struggle to make ends meet. For too many, the cost of “home” is simply out of reach.

That’s why I’ve joined Honolulu Habitat’s Wahine Build. 

Honolulu Habitat for Humanity has been helping low-income families build and repair affordable homes since 1988. Wahine Build is their annual project to educate and mobilize women in support of affordable housing on Oahu. This spring, I’ll join 200 other women in building a Habitat home from foundation to finish.

This summer I helped build a home with a family in Waimanalo and I’ll tell you, it’s tough work! But meeting the homeowners and learning how much this house means to them made it all worth it. There are no words to describe the feeling of watching someone’s life change right in front of you.”
