ReStore: volunteer opportunities

  • News

Honolulu Habitat for Humanity thrives with the support of dedicated volunteers like you.

But in case you didn’t know, volunteering with Habitat doesn’t always mean you have to work on a build site or swing a hammer!

What does a ReStore volunteer do?

ReStore volunteers do all sorts of things to support our warehouse staff. From assisting customers to stocking items – even riding along on the ReStore truck!

ReStore Cashier

If you’re a people-person (with some basic math skills), this is the gig for you. Our volunteer ReStore cashier operates the cash register, greets and assists customers, and maintains a clean working area at the cash wrap. Learn more.

ReStore Warehouse Organizer

Our volunteering Restore warehouse organizer plays a key role in merchandising and organizing ReStore’s salesfloor and warehouse space. This volunteer position is for an organizer, somebody who enjoys merchandising and maintaining order. This position oversees the visual representation of ReStore’s salesfloor and organization of items on the floor. Learn more.

ReStore Truck Assistant

Our volunteer Restore truck assistant helps divert materials from going into our landfill by assisting the ReStore team in loading and unloading donations island wide. This position rides with one of our ReStore team members in our box truck and assists with pickups of donations around the island as well as unloading those donations back at the ReStore. When can I volunteer at ReStore?

Most ReStore volunteer opportunities are available Tuesday through Saturday. We have morning (9am-12pm) and afternoon (12pm-4pm) shifts, and are flexible to work around your availability.

We prefer volunteers to make a commitment of 2 shifts per week – this helps us plan ahead and allows time to train our volunteers for success.

We anticipate welcoming volunteers back to ReStore this fall. If you’d like to join our waitlist, contact volunteer@honoluluhabitat.org so we can update you when shifts are announced.

Can anyone volunteer at ReStore?

Habitat volunteers come from all walks of life. We work hard to match volunteers with opportunities that match their interests, skills and experience.

ReStore volunteers ages 14-15 must have a parent/guardian volunteering with them at all times. All volunteers under age 18 must have a signed waiver from a parent/guardian.

Sign up for a ReStore Orientation

All ReStore volunteers must complete a 1-hour orientation prior to their first shift. This gives you a chance to meet the team, tour our warehouse and complete required paperwork. ReStore orientation dates will be announced in September/October.

Have other skills you’d like to volunteer?

Beyond ReStore and our build sites, there are plenty of other ways to get involved!

  • Lend your time and talent by serving on one of our working committees: Build Committee, Family Selection Committee, Finance Committee and Resource Development Committee
  • Got a knack for data entry or admin support? Come help us out in the office!
  • If you’re the creative type, we have a wide assortment of opportunities for photographers, videographers, editors, copywriters, digital marketers and designers.

No matter which option works best for you, you can feel good about knowing you did something that will make a difference in your local community.

If you have a skillset or talent to offer that’s not mentioned here, or if you have general questions, contact the Volunteer Department today to find out how you can help.
