Development Projects

Kaka'ina

In partnership with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, Honolulu Habitat broke ground on 4 new homes in this new subdivision in Waimanalo in September 2018. Homes were completed in July 2019, October 2019, December 2019, July 2020 and July 2022, housing 26 individuals. Six additional homes are planned for 2022 – 2024.

In December 2014, Honolulu Habitat in partnership with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) completed five homes with Native Hawaiian families. The location of the homes were in a newly developed subdivision in Waimanalo and within close proximity on the same cul-de-sac. Funding for the project was made possible through DHHL’s NAHASDA funding. All five families worked together on the homes along with hundreds of community volunteers. The homes housed a total of 25 individuals including 13 children. Because of the collaboration with the families and participation on each other’s homes, we were truly building a community of strangers who became volunteers, who became neighbors and neighbors who care for one another like one Habitat family..
