General Volunteer

How can I volunteer with Honolulu Habitat?

A: There are a number of ways you can get involved with Honolulu Habitat. Volunteers can work on our build site, in our office or on special projects and committees. For a comprehensive list of current opportunities, please visit our Volunteer page.

Who can volunteer?

A: We welcome everyone who believes in our vision! You can come as an individual who wants to lend a hand and meet new people, or with a group that wants to spend more time together. We have worked alongside corporations, schools, faith groups, families, students and everyone in between.

Can I fulfill community service with Honolulu Habitat?

A: We’d be happy to work with you to help you complete community service hours. Upon registering for your first volunteer day, you’ll be prompted to answer several questions pertaining to your community service. We will then review your answers and you will be notified via e-mail whether or not you’ve been approved to complete your service with us.

Build Site FAQs

Do I need to register in advance to volunteer?

A: Yes. Every volunteer must register in advance. Walk-in volunteers will not be allowed on site.

How old do I need to be to build with Habitat?

A: All build site volunteers must be 16+ years old. Volunteers under 18 must have a liability waiver signed by a parent/guardian.

Do I need prior experience?

A: Not at all! We’ll teach you everything you need to have a fun, safe and rewarding day at the build site. If you have any specialized training or prefer to assist with specific phases of the build, let us know and we’ll do our best to match you to the right opportunity.

Where is the build site?

A: Driving and parking instructions will be emailed to you prior to your build day.

What do I need to bring with me?

A: Our build site dress code requires closed toe shoes and recommend long pants. Bring a refillable water bottle (we will provide water), snacks/lunch, and sun protection.

How long is the build day?

A: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with a 30 minute lunch break midday.

Can I leave early?

A: We ask all volunteers to commit for the full duration of the volunteer shift.

What if I can no longer make the day I signed up for?

A: We work hard to move our Habitat homebuyers into their homes and plan our work on the numbers of volunteers we have signed up. If you’re unable to make your shift, please let us know as soon as possible at volunteer@honoluluhabitat.org or 808-777-4137
